2008-2009 Lions District 2-E2 Youth Contest Opportunities
Peace Poster Contest (November 15, 2008)
· Theme: Peace Begins with Me
· Ages: 11, 12, or 13 as of November 15, 2008
· Prizes (3 places, savings bonds): $100, $75, $50
· Requirements: Hand done, greater than 13x20 inches, smaller than20x24 inches, no mat or frame, no lettering or numbering, 2-dimensional
Drug Awareness Council Poster Contest (December 29, 2008)
· Theme: The Dangers and/or Consequences in the Use of Drugs or Tobacco
· Divisions (4), Grades: 3-4, 5-6, 7-9, 10-12
· Prizes (3 places in each division, savings bonds): $200, $100, $50
· Requirements: hand drawn, poster board, 14x22 in.
· Judging Criteria: Quality, Clarity, Originality, Spelling
Rules and Applications for Youth Contests. These two documents are required for Speech, Essay and OSY Contests in addition to those listed below.

· Theme: Drug Abuse - Paradise Lost
· Grades: Junior or Senior
· Prizes(3 places): $1000 scholarship, $500 savings bond, $250 savings bond
· Requirements: 5-7 minute speech (text recited from memory)
Diabetic Essay Contest (mid-January)
· Theme: Type I Diabetes - Prospects For A Cure
· Grades: Junior or Senior
· Prizes (3places, scholarships): $1000, $500, $250
· Requirements: Up to 1500 words
· Judging Criteria: Content (60%), English (15%), recitation (25%)
Outstanding Youth Contest (mid-January)
· Grades: Junior or Senior
· Prizes (2 places, scholarships): $1000, $500
· Requirements: Three letters of recommendation, transcript, interview, biography
· Judging Criteria: Grade point (20%), biography (5%), letters of recommendation (15%), community service/leadership (30%), interview (30%)
